General John Monash in field uniform, 1918. Australian General John Monash, GCMG, KCB, VD was one of the highest military commanders of Australia, here he can be seen with a selection of his ribbons in 1918. He commanded the 4th Brigade during the Campaign of Gallipoli, to see be attached to the brand-new 3rd Division in France. Shortly before this picture was taken, he was promoted to commander of the whole Australian Corps. Since 2013, many initiatives have tried to posthumously promote Monash to the rank of field marshal, but they haven’t had any success and in 2018 the petition was dismissed. His uniform is currently preserved in the Australian War Memorial.
